First day touring Buenos Aires

Estaban arrived at the hotel as planned at 10AM. Off we went…First stop was at the Floralis Generica designed by Eduardo Catalano. We drove thru an area of very expensive homes called "Barrio Parque". Very beautiful!! Then on to the Plano de Ubicacion and seeing the beautiful Jardin de Rosas. We then drove thru the Palermo and Belgrano neighborhoods. Beautiful canoyed streets. Stopped at a bookstore called "El Ateneo". This is an old theater restored to its original beauty. Also had clean bathrooms!! Next stop was the Recoleta Cemetery Saw Eva Peron,s gravesite in the Duarte mausoleum. Then it was on to the Plaza San Martin to see the United Buddy Bear exhibit. We then walked part way down the Calle Florida.

Next stop was at the Cafe Tortoni where we said goodbye for the day to our driver and had lunch. At the Cafe Tortoni, we met Bob Davenport and his wife that will be on the cruise with us. It sure is a small world! Estaban helped them arrange for a reservation to go to Colonia tomorrow. After lunch, we took the “A” subway..the old restored wooden cars to Plaza de Mayo. We saw the Casa Rosada from whose balcony Evita addressed the crowds. We then observed “The Mothers of the Disappeared” in their weekly march. From there we took the "D" line subway back to the hotel. We had a great day touring today and look forward to tomorrow.

Today Bill and Liz Handy arrived. We had dinner tonite at a little Italian restaurant called Celetto. The food was OK but the wine was good.
